The Legacy

by Katherine Webb

Reviewed by Coral

After the death of their grand-mother, sisters Beth and Eric return to the house where they spent much of their childhood. Sorting through their grandmother’s possessions, the sisters must confront a past they’ve tried to keep buried and a family secret buried for much longer.

I liked this book, but I kind of wish it had been focused on either Beth and Erica’s secret or the long buried family secret. Having both just kind of felt like too much (though maybe that’s because, as far as I know, my family has no secrets like these).

Mysteries are not my strong point, but I thought it was kind of obvious at a certain point what both stories were building too. Though I was surprised by a twist in the Beth and Erica secret.

There are a lot of flashbacks to the time of Beth and Erica’s great-grandmother, but since it’s the only way we would ever get that much information on that secret I was okay with their use. No matter how much digging was done, I liked that this mystery couldn’t be entirely solved by Erica, considering the limited resources she had.
