Murder at the God's Gate

by Lynda S. Robinson

Reviewed by Coral

The new statue of the Pharaoh Tutankhamun at the temple of Amun is turned into a scene of tragedy when Unas, one of Meren’s informers, is found dead at its base. But is this a simple accident or something more sinister? And can Meren get to the bottom of it before it costs him the Pharaoh’s loyalty and, ultimately, his life?

Rereading this book, I was again bothered by the fact that something that seemed completely obvious to me was overlooked by the characters for too long. But, again, I am not sure if it because of what I remember from last time. Still, it doesn’t bode well if the books can’t hold up the second time round.

Actually, it’s only the mystery aspect of the books that have disappointed on rereading. I am still enjoying the characters and the overall political plot line of the books. I just wish that I either didn’t remember as much about the books as I do or that things weren’t as obvious as they seemed to me in this book.

Another minor little nitpick about the book: in the first book the author writes that Meren doesn’t like touching the scar branded on his wrist, but here he rubs at it all the time as kind of a tic.
