Lords of the Bow

Having survived being banished as a child, Genghis faces larger challenges. He is determined to unite the Mongol tribes behind one leader and one cause: conquering the Chin empire.

The style of writing drew me into the first book of this series and it is just as engrossing in this second book.

There are a lot of characters to juggle, especially given that the books aren’t as long as some of the epic fantasy books I read, but I think the author did a good job of fleshing the majority of these characters out, though there were a couple I wish we had spent more time with.

Genghis is a flawed character, realistically, though it can make for some frustrating moments. Considering how he treats his eldest son through the majority of the book – a choice he seems to be conscious of for the most part – he seems unrealistically ignorant to the type of anger the boy could have for him in some moments.

I wish more time could have been spent on the uniting of the Mongol people. That part seemed to pass really quickly.

Can’t wait to read book three!
