The Shadow Roads

by Sean Russell

Reviewed by Coral

The war between the Renné and Wills family rages on. There are traitors on either side as victory and defeat hang in the balance.

Meanwhile, Elise, Tam and all of the others involved with that plot, battle with and against the long dormant spirits to keep the gates of the underworld from opening.

It has been awhile since I have read the first two books of the series, but I feel the same as I did when I first started the series: the two plots never really come together, even though there are characters that cross over from one to the other. I actually wish that the whole “dormant sprits” had been dropped completed and that the main focus of the books was the war between the two noble houses. I was actually more interested in that story line and I felt it got lost in the mix of everything else.

Tam and his friends were mostly pointless to the story, but I also felt that way about a lot of the characters caught up in that story line.

The love story might not have ended up how I expected it to, but I knew from the first that Tam and Elise were meant to be the end-game couple. I still maintain that she was a better fit with Michael, who I think ended up getting short-changed overall throughout all of the books.
